I’m aware there’s a fight for my eyeballs; all those posts that scream ‘look at me’. So, this year, I want to do better. Steal my glances away from what causes brain rot and pay attention to a better world. Maybe then I’ll have time to pray for a better world. God, can you help me?
I will give my sight to that which illuminates, inspires, magnifies and rouses. I’ll read what edifies, share what strengthens and gossip about good news.
It’s been said that ‘attention is a moral act’, and if where I pay attention matters, I will stand. To attention, then.
I can hear an echo: after you have done everything, to stand. Pay attention and stand; choose my focus and zoom in. Maybe then I’ll recognise the good, and I can shout to others, have you seen this?
I will turn away and look up. Will you look too?
The phrase ‘attention is a moral act’ is taken from the most fascinating book I read in 2024: ‘How to Know a Person‘ by David Brooks, the quote is attributed to Iain McGilChrist.
Ephesians 6:13 reads ‘Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand’.

I realise not everyone who visits my site is a Christian. If you’d like to find out more about faith and are wondering what all the fuss is about, then you might want to take a look here. You’ll need to register, but there’s no spam, and the resources are completely free.
Can you support my writing? I’m undertaking some challenging (and costly) new projects, so please consider buying one of my books, and if you’d like to encourage me, please think about buying me a coffee on Kofi.
DislocatedChristians exists to create and support a community of like-minded people. I’ve described myself as Dislocated because I sometimes struggle to understand how God wants me to be in the world, but not of the world. I also move house a lot!
Just as we are each a work in progress, so too is DislocatedChristians. Sometimes I’ll get things wrong, and I hope you’ll forgive me and continue to stick around when that happens.
