What’s struck me most since moving back to England is the number of pedestrians; they are everywhere! I haven’t lived in the UK for seven years, but now that we’re back, I am surprised every day by the number of people out and about walking.
I am regularly held in traffic at the crossroads pictured above, and we have a family joke about which oddly dressed person we’ll spot as we pass through it. One day, we spotted a woman in a bikini walking across the road with an inflatable; the next, we turned the corner to find a man in a khaki safari suit nonchalantly leaning against a lamppost, as if he were waiting for a buffalo to pass by. Then there was the woman dressed head to toe in pink, pushing a pink pram and drinking from a pink flask. I can’t wait to see who the next surprising person will be.
I suspect all these people may be walking to and fro carrying packages. Another surprising aspect of UK life is that the most popular hobby appears to be sending and receiving parcels. I, too, have joined in this craze as I begin to send out pre-orders of Our Sisters to contributors and overseas supporters. I’ll start posting UK pre-orders next week; please click here to place your order with me. Although I can’t beat the prices of online retailers, buying from me allows me to donate more to organisations working in Nepal and Pakistan.
To celebrate the publication of Our Sisters, I am organising two events; an online book launch will take place on Sunday, 26th October, which I would love you to join me for. I’ll be interviewed by my good friend Jenny, with contributions from my publisher and an activist. There will also be a chance for you to ask me questions. A wonderful Pakistani friend has even allowed me to use a song she has written for the opening and closing credits, so please listen out for that. I hope you’ll be there – the Zoom link will be posted on my Facebook page, DislocatedChristians, closer to the date, but please mark the date in your diary now.

The other event I am planning is an in-person Book Launch on Wednesday, 26th November at our new church in Gloucestershire. Given that they have only just met me, I really appreciate the support the church is giving me to do this. You are, of course, very welcome to attend this as well. However, if you’re unable to make it, please consider inviting me to share about my books at your church or group, in-person or on Zoom. I absolutely love doing this and am convinced that God wants more people to know how they can make a difference to women in Asia.

Promotion for Our Sisters is picking up. I was interviewed on UCB 2 radio a few days ago, and if you’d like to hear the recording, it’s available here (scroll down to 22nd Sept). There’s also going to be an in-depth interview with me in the November issue of Premier’s Woman Alive magazine. Claire, the interviewer, was fantastic and really captured the breadth and essence of the book with her questions.
Thank you for your interest in my work and your support. I hope you, too, feel excited that Our Sisters will soon be published. Please pray that the book will be used by God to prevent and rescue girls from forced marriages in Pakistan.
Now, where’s my cowboy hat? I need to post some parcels!
Anna
