Oldies but Goodies – it’s All Saints Day

Oldies but Goodies old radio set

Today is 1st November, and on this day, I love to remember all the Saints, i.e. Christians, that came before me. I have been so privileged to know incredible Christians who not only changed my life but history as well. I encourage you to take a few moments today to remember and thank God for the committed saints who shared their faith with you.

I have written many times about Eileen Lodge’s massive impact on me. She was a veteran missionary in Nepal when I went to live there in 2004, and thanks to her invitation, we founded and I continue to run Women Without Roofs, which helps vulnerable women in Kathmandu. Eileen was a remarkable woman and also set up three hospitals. What a saint! Although she passed away in 2019, I think of her often, and she continues to inspire me; her legacy is immense.

My parents influenced my faith the most when I was young and took me along to church. I am so grateful for their witness and steadfast faith in God that continues to this day. My grandparents were Christians and taught me the importance of giving time and money to others. I accompanied my Grandma as she delivered Meals on Wheels, and in various corners of their house, were collecting boxes for their beloved charities. My Grandma was particularly committed to the South American Missionary Society (SAMS). I have such fond memories of my grandparents; their influence has certainly inspired me to devote much of my life to running a Christian charity.

Who are the Christian saints that have inspired you or continue to impact your life? I’d love to hear about them in the comments section below.

Remembering those who journeyed in faith before us is essential because sometimes life can become tough and feel heavy. We might think we’re the first to experience particular challenges and believe we are alone with our fears. But that’s not the case; many Christian Saints have endured trials and tribulations before us. We are not alone; when we remember what God has done before, we are strengthened to face the future. God never changes or forgets, so if He helped Christians in the past, he will do it again.

The importance of remembering what God has done is the subject of my latest five-day bible plan published on YouVersion. I’d love for you to read it and experience the joy of knowing you’re part of a cloud of witnesses and saints.

DislocatedChristians exists to create and support a community of like-minded people. I’ve described myself as Dislocated because I sometimes struggle to understand how God wants me to be in the world but not of the world. I also move house a lot!

If you’d like to support my writing, please consider buying one of my books. I’m undertaking some challenging (and costly) new projects, and if you’d like to encourage me with them, please consider buying me a coffee on Kofi.

Just as we are each a work in progress, so too is DislocatedChristians. Sometimes, I’ll get things wrong, and I hope you’ll forgive me and continue to stick around when that happens.
