Can you see the large branch stuck between the trunks of the tree? It fell in a storm and is wedged there.
It challenges me. On the one hand, it was part of the tree; the branches and leaves are correct and match the others. The leaves are still off the ground.
On the other hand, it is dead. The leaves are drying out, curling in and rapidly turning brown.
Appearances can be deceptive.
Jesus tells us to abide in him. He is the vine, and we are the branches. Our lives will only bear fruit if we remain attached to Him. (John 15:4-6)
Lord, help me to remain in you so that my life bears fruit. Remove any deception from my life. When I give the appearance of being a Christian, rather than genuinely abiding in you, help me to repent and turn from those ways with humility. Amen
